Festival del Prosciutto di Parma
Parma, a province in Italy’s northern Emilia-Romagna region, celebrates its famous hams each year. The festival in the city of Parma and other ham-producing towns in the province, including Langhirano, attracts more than 100,000 visitors.

One of the many attractions is the ‘open doors’ tradition of the ham factories. Visitors get to go inside the factories and see how today’s hams are produced in the same way as two thousand years ago, using prized pig legs and sea salt. More than 10 million Parma Hams are produced each year by the 164 companies of the Parma Ham Consortium. The city is equally famous for another delicious food – parmesan cheese.

A large section of this authentic stone farmhouse, 30 kilometres from Parma, is being sold with 50 acres of farmland. As an added bonus, the local village of Calestano has an annual Black Truffle Festival. For more info, click the image.

Cous Cous Fest, Sicily
San Vito lo Capo in western Sicily holds an annual couscous festival which has blossomed into an enormous celebration of food and cultural integration. Chefs from Sicily, Italy and other Mediterranean countries visit the seaside town and compete to create the best dishes from couscous, pasta’s little cousin which is also made from durum wheat. Evening tastings are complemented with live music, singing and dancing.

Also in the west of Sicily, this six-bedroom property near Salemi comprises a main house and five-bedroom building. It has a pool from which you can enjoy views across the Sicilian countryside. For more info, click the image.

Pane Nostrum Festival, Le Marche
In the old town of Senigallia, on Italy’s Adriatic Coast, September is a month for celebrating bread and the art of making it. Visitors will be able to watch bread being made in the open air and, of course, taste different types. This beautifully restored four-bedroom farmhouse in Senigallia is close to sandy beaches and boasts views of both the sea and Mount Catria, snowcapped during winter.
