Some 500km of vast, open landscape and red earth await spectators in a frantic buggy race across the Australian outback.

Bikes and buggies reach speeds of up to 170km per hour as they follow the course along the former Ghan railway service track to the desert community of Aputula.

Racers have to average around 60km per hour over the treacherous terrain to even make the second day’s return run.

Living in Australia may be an ambition for many people and with unique sporting events such as this taking place all over the country, it is easy to see why.

In Alice Springs from June 11th, more than 12,000 people congregate to watch the race and enjoy the party atmosphere.
