Property in Spain could be a good option for holidaymakers keen to head away in the peak period of August, but still in search of a good deal.

Tom Hall, travel editor at vacation guides publisher Lonely Planet, concedes that August is a time when prices tend to be high for holidays in popular destinations.

However, a stay in property in Spain could be one option that helps to overcome the cost, thanks to the deals that are available in the popular holiday hotspot.

"When we start thinking about August, it remains reasonably expensive to go anywhere," he says.

"So if you are thinking about going somewhere in the Mediterranean, you can certainly look at Spain."

Mr Hall also recommends looking at other times of year for a more economical break, however.

For instance, heading away earlier in the year can avoid the summer crowds – but could lead to bracing conditions for those determined to swim in the sea while on their holiday.
