Money may not buy you happiness but it can certainly help you make friends, it seems – especially if you happen to be a Hollywood icon with a luxury Italy property.

Matt Damon, star of the Bourne Identity franchise, has revealed the secret to his long-established friendship with George Clooney, which it seems has less to do with the latter’s famous charm and more to do with his stunning Italy property.

Damon told Parade.com: "George has this beautiful place in Italy where he brings all of his friends and he’s an amazingly generous person.

"As a friend of George, what you really need to do is try and stay on his list because he’s got an incredible life that he shares with all his friends."

However, while Clooney’s Italy property may impress his equally famous friend, it seems Damon is less than taken with the former ER star’s gambling abilities.

He also told the website that on a recent trip to Vegas, Clooney succeeded in losing 25 straight blackjack hands.
