Florence stages its annual cricket festival in May, but Italy property seekers will be hearing chirps rather than the echo of leather on willow as it is the insect of that name that takes centre stage.

Staring on Ascension Sunday (May 24th) in Parco delle Cascine, the event focuses on the traditional notion of the crickets bringing good luck, which was once expressed in the May festival of Candelmaggio, where young men gave the insects to their loved ones to bring a household good fortune.
