Anyone who has ever dreamed of a French property with the royal touch may wish to turn their attention to the Dordogne region, it has been claimed.

Famed as the land of 1,000 castles, Dordogne-based French property is becoming even more popular with those seeking a luxury chateau lifestyle, following significant price drops in the region, the Daily Mail reports.

Georgina Caldwell of French Property News tells the newspaper: "I spoke to an agent in the Tarn-et-Garonne department a few days ago who said he’d sold a house every week for the past four months.

Ms Caldwell adds that for French property buyers "the outlook in the market is positive", an assertion backed by the newspaper, which claims a Dordogne castle which cost a princely £2 million in 2007 can now be bought for £1.8 million.

Dordogne is located in south-west France and features many attractive landmarks, including the Lascaux caves, the Marqueyssac gardens and the Chateau Castelnaud.
