It has been revealed that more and more people are opting to rent aparthotels when they stay in Portugal. An aparthotel is what it sounds; a cross between an apartment and a hotel. Travellers choose from self caters apartments or rooms which are rented out but are located within actual hotel buildings.

In fact, this property option is becoming so popular that a specialist aparthotel company are planning on building 500 extra units each year, over the next few years. The units are set to stretch across Portugal, Paris and other major cities in Europe.

A spokesman for the company stated, “Freedom to choose where and how you eat, especially when on extended stays or with young children, is something that the traditional hotel format doesn’t accommodate well.”

He continued to detail what guests can expect when staying at an aparthotel in Portugal; “extra space in their bedroom as well as a private kitchen/diner while preserving the essentials such as 24-hour reception and housekeeping and we throw in wi-fi and sports channels for all.”

The aparthotels are perfect for those who want to invest in Portuguese property as they will earn their keep in rental income, as well as being a great destination for personal use by the owners. Prices start from just €214,000, of which a property costing that would generate around €15,000 per year in rental.
