Burgundy is a region that offers French property buyers may attractions, including that of a stable market, it has been stated.

Period home renovation firm Arena Park France – which focuses on restoring stone cottages in the Cote d’Or wine-growing area – said of the region: "Like its wine the Cote d’Or’s housing market is about quality rather than quantity and as such is offering some serious French resistance to the economic downturn."

The firm stated that the area remains rural because of its wine-growing and with limited opportunities remains a place for the "discerning" investor, while free from the falls in prices that can occur elsewhere.

Such a combination of stability and wineries may be particularly attractive for many French property seekers.

UK investors may also have been encouraged by recent improvements in the value of sterling against the euro, making buying in France cheaper.

Last week the pound rose past €1.17 and today its value approached €1.18.
