Recent television ads for Bulgarian tourism have been viewed by over 137 million viewers, each viewing it at least four times, a report shows. The government has released the figures after the campaign on International TV channels; Euronews, Eurosport, National Geographic and the Discovery Chanel.

The campaign is thought to have cost around 7.5m BGN, was funded by the EU Regional Development Program and ran twice, from September – December ’10 and January – March ’11.

More than half of the ads for Bulgaria were shown during prime time television in a bid to inspire people to visit the country. Around 3000 ads were shown in total, spread over the four network channels.

The campaign worked as well, with the adverts being viewed by so many people, and the advertising banners online generating more than 14 million page views to the tourism of Bulgaria website.

Documentaries about Bulgaria were also made; one by each of the four channels. The Economy Ministry for Bulgaria stated that the main focus of the campaign was on image-making and creating awareness about Bulgaria. They also stated that the real effect of the campaign is yet to be fully measured. They hope that it will result in an increase of tourists and potential property investment in Bulgaria.
