The minimum monthly wage in Bulgaria is set to increase by BGN 30 as of September 1st of this year. The current BGN 240 will rise to BGN 270.

The President of the Confederation of Independent Syndicates (KNSB), Plamen Dimitrov, announced the plans last Thursday following a meeting of the Three-Way Council, combined of the labour unions, the business, and the cabinet.

The previously agreed date for the change had been July 1st this year, however the business had become divided over which was best. Dimitrov has stated that the trade unions agreed on BGN 270 as a preliminary step, and that there was likely to be a further upgrade following January 2012, most likely to BGN 290.

Institutions in Bulgaria who operate on the delegated budgets, such as schools and the Agency for Social Assistance will be set to receive additional funding to help reflect the raise of the minimum monthly wage.

The Three-Way council are meeting again in July to discuss a raise to the retirement pension for widows and widowers. the idea is to increase it by 6%-7% in September, and gradually more after January 2012.
