British buyers make up one of the top three nations of foreign property-buyers in the USA, along with Canadians and Brazilians. And of the ten most popular areas for foreign buyers anywhere in the USA, six are in Florida.

Leading real estate resource website, Inman News, made these findings, confirming both that Brits are stilll hungry for homes in the USA and Florida remains the number one spot. The research, which is based on stats between May 2011 and January 2012, also ranked areas most popular with foreign buyers as follows:

  1. Lakeland – Winter Haven, Florida
  2. Cape Coral – Fort Myers, Florida
  3. Orlando-Kissimmee – Sanford, Florida
  4. North Port-Bradenton – Sarasota, Florida
  5. Miami – Fort Lauderdale – Pompano Beach, Florida
  6. Phoenix – Mesa-Glendale, Arizona
  7. New York County, N.Y. (Manhattan)
  8. Honolulu
  9. Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Florida
  10. Las Vegas – Paradise, Nevada

Figures also revealed that between May 2011 and January 2012, 6.9 per cent of sold homes in the Orlando metro were to non-residents. Of the three counties that comprise this area, the two in which Disney World is located, Orange and Osceola, have the highest percentages of foreign buyers.

Osceola County had the highest share, at 14.7 per cent, followed by Orange County, at 6.5 per cent. The third, Seminole County, had a 3.5 per cent share. In all three counties, resale condos were the most popular property type. Foreign buyers accounted for a quarter of all resale condos bought between May 2011 and January 2012 in Osceola County. New homes were the second most popular property type, with foreign buyers accounting for 17 per cent of new-home purchases in Osceola County.
