Expats living in property in Portugal may not return to the UKNew research has revealed that around two-thirds of expats – potentially including those living in property in Portugal – do not plan to come back to the UK.

The study by Lloyds TSB International found that many of these Britons believe they would not be able to improve their financial outlook by returning to their home country – only 14 per cent said the opposite.

It is possible that expats are being put off the possibility of living in the UK again by spending cuts and other issues that may affect their finances, explained Lloyds TSB International managing director Jakob Pfaudler.

He added: "We knew that most people who move abroad are glad they did so, but we were surprised at the growing pessimism about financial prospects in the UK."

Britons considering moving to property in Portugal and other locations may want to carefully consider their reasons for doing so, according to Shelter Offshore.

The website recommends talking to other expats in the same country to find out what life is like there and discussing plans with friends and family first.
