Tourists from the UK are increasingly seeking more fun than sun when it comes to planning their perfect French property holiday, it seems.

A growing number of British holidaymakers see trips abroad as a chance to try new things, with many opting for experiential holidays such as trekking and snow-sports, according to travel operator TUI Travel.

Lynsey Devon, Activity Sector PR Manager for the adventure division at TUI Travel, said: "Back in the 1970s, people went on holiday to lie on beaches and do absolutely nothing.

"Now they are looking to go away, have an experience and then come back and tell everybody about it."

She added that sailing is another popular activity among UK travellers, appealing to all age groups, from young children to those in their mid 30s and 40s, right up to the "silver surfers".

French property can provide an excellent base for those with the spirit of adventure, with some of the world’s finest skiing located in the famous Alps region.
