Improved air access, the opening of a new tourist attraction and plans for a luxury resort are adding to the appeal of the Bodrum area as a second home destination.

Already a popular resort on Turkey’s Aegean coast, the Bodrum area is benefiting from low-cost airline Jet2.com’s decision to increase flights to Dalaman from Glasgow this summer. The carrier also flies to Bodrum.

This coincides with the opening of a new culture centre in the old port town of Turgutreis on the western edge of the Bodrum peninsula. As a break from days on the beach, visitors there can browse two art galleries, a Maritime History Archive and various art workshops.

Meanwhile, the new Viceroy Bodrum hotel resort, launched last month, will include 84 guest rooms and 166 residential units once complete in 2014. The resort’s site covers 32 acres and overlooks the beaches of Koyunbaba. Residences there include one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments as well as three- and four-bedroom detached villas. Amenities will include a private beach club, a signature spa and several Turkish and international dining options.
