As of April 2013, improvements will be in place which will mean that the country will now be linked to France and will allow passengers to travel directly to French cities without having to change trains.

The new stretch of track, which is being laid at a cost of €3.7 billion will reduce travel time between Barcelona and Paris to just six and a half hours. Journey time between the Spanish capital, Madrid and the French capital, Paris will now be just 10 hours. The new routes will take in two stops, Girona and Figueras.

This is just the latest in a long line of high speed trains which have been introduced in the country in a bid to make travel easier, faster and better value for money – great news for tourists to the country and business owners who are set to benefit from the increased number of people travelling through.

To date the high speed rail network in Spain spans a total of 3000 kilometres, which makes it the second longest rail network in the world after China.
