A recent survey conducted by New Zealand’s Government Immigration Settlement Monitoring Programme took a look at happiness levels amongst expats who have taken the plunge and made the big move.

Overall the survey found that 8 out of 10 of the people surveyed said that they were happy to have made the move. 45 per cent claimed to be “very satisfied” with their decision which marked an increase on the results of the same survey conducted this time last year.

Of all the recipients surveyed, seventy per cent reported a desire to stay in the country permanently and 89 per cent were quick to state that they would recommend the country to their friends and family without a moment’s hesitation.

Although results show that the majority of expats are happy with their life-changing choice, 22 per cent of them admitted that they had made very few friends and that they didn’t socialise with any of the locals.

Surveys of this nature are regularly conducted by the Labour and Immigration Research Centre in the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment as a means of gauging how well people are settling and to help them understand attitudes towards immigration. If the results are anything to go by, things are going well!
