In a nod to this month’s 2019 Wimbledon Championships, we serve up a selection of our favourite overseas homes with a tennis court. Prepare to be aced…

Lot et Garonne home with tennis court

France
You don’t need to be a millionaire to have a pretty detached house with a tennis court in France. In fact, that goes for most other European countries where land doesn’t come at such a premium as it does in much of the UK!

Here’s proof. This charming stone property in the south-west département of Lot et Garonne sits on 14 hectares of land and comes with a heated pool and tennis courts. With a total of seven bedrooms, including a one-bed guest cottage, it would be hard to argue that it’s €583,000 price tag isn’t good value!

Other options for Francophile tennis fans include a refurbished manor house near Angoulême in Poitou-Charentes. With a total of eight bedrooms and run as a chambre d’hôte for the past 10 years, it boasts a clay tennis court as well as large outdoor pool. Or, slightly larger budgets might stretch to a 20-hectare equestrian-themed property in the Dordogne. Comprising a main house and gîte, it includes a tennis court, paddock, outbuildings, pool and petanque court.

Ace property in Mallorca, home of Nadal

Spain
As the birthplace of tennis super-star Rafael Nadal, Mallorca has a special connection with tennis. Nadal was born in Manacor, a town on the east side of the Balearic island where his family still lives and which he still calls home. He also has a luxury home down the road in the beach resort of Porto Cristo. In 2016 he opened the high-performance Rafa Nadal Academy, which includes an interactive sports museum, there.

A short drive away across the Mallorcan interior brings you to this impressive country house near the town of Inca. On a large private plot, this four-bedroom property includes a tennis court with its own changing rooms, complemented by a pool and stables.

Over in mainland Spain, we’ve found a modern three-bedroom villa in a stunning location deep in inland Andalusia near Antequera complete with a tennis court. Carefully refurbished and with all mod cons, you get a lot for the €295,000 asking price.

Algarve home with tennis court

Portugal
The Algarve’s reliably balmy climate is ideal for tennis fans who enjoy a knock-around all year round. If that sounds like you, take a look at this spacious five-bedroom four-bathroom villa in the port city of Portimão in the western Algarve.
Its plot of 1,688 square metres has been cleverly designed to include not only a large pool and terrace area, but also a fully fenced tennis court. The property is only two minutes from the beach and a shopping centre. On the market for €600,000, this could be a winner for someone!

A larger, more upmarket option in the Algarve could in Albufeira, where we’ve found a luxury five-bedroom villa with a tennis court just two kilometres from the resort’s popular seafront. Other highlights include a heated pool with large terrace area, and extensive landscapes gardens.

Tennis home in Umbria

Italy
Tucked away in the rolling Umbrian countryside, the only thing that might distract you from the ball while playing on the tennis court at this property is the stunning scenery. This beautifully converted stone farmhouse sits in a panoramic position, 1.5 kilometres from the town of Baschi. Its one-hectare plot, dotted with fruit and olive trees, also includes a pool for cooling off in after a gruelling five set match!

Another Italian option for tennis fans could be to share a tennis court with your neighbours. This restored farmhouse in Tuscany is set around courtyard with three other properties, all of which have use of a communal pool, gardens and tennis court.
