Destinations in Spain are still popular with holidaymakers, it has been claimed, despite the increasingly unfavourable exchange rate of the pound against the euro.

Spanish property investors may be encouraged to hear that "traditional" hotspots in the country have still seen a strong number of bookings, according to Paul Simmons, the UK regional general manager for easyJet.

Mr Simmons noted that Alicante and Malaga are showing high demand from Brits, a trend which could boost Spanish property owners.

Furthermore, he stated that city breaks are also faring well in the current economic downturn and such destinations fit in with the airline’s plan to link flights from key European conurbations.

"There is a deliberate strategy we’ve been having for a number of years now to connect to the major capitals in Europe and the major cities in Europe as well as going abroad for beach type destinations," he said.

A number of new routes were recently unveiled by easyJet, with new links from London Gatwick to Vienna, Zurich, Munich and Bodrum due to start in April.
