Broadband connections in property in Spain help improve access to eGovernmentAnyone moving to property in Spain this year is likely to have one eye on the election result back in the UK.

The British government’s policy-setting can still have an important impact on expatriates abroad – on issues ranging from pensions to the entitlement to subsidised healthcare under international extensions of the privileges offered by the NHS.

But the UN E-Government Survey 2010 shows that people relocating to property in Spain, along with some other European jurisdictions, can expect a good level of transparency thanks to the nation’s broadband and even mobile internet infrastructure.

Spain, France and the Netherlands all appear in the ten most successful providers of eGovernment services, slightly behind the UK which, in fourth, has the best online governmental services in Europe.

However, the survey notes strong progress across the board since it was last conducted in 2008, indicating that anyone moving to the top-ranked jurisdictions might be able to expect further advances in eGovernment to be made in future.
