It is known as Spain’s most ageing village, but Olmeda de la Cuesta, is hoping to revive itself by selling plots of land for just €2000. All 32 residents are retired, except for the exception of the mayor, José Luis Regacho, and it has been more than 40 years since a birth was registered in the village.

Due to many properties which were owned by former inhabitants of the village being subjects of decay and crumbling, the mayor has decided that the time has come for the land to be sold off at rock bottom prices in a bid to tempt foreign investors looking to develop a holiday home in the area.

As there is not much work to be found in the village, and anyone wanting to live there would face a long commute to a place of work, holiday home is the best idea for these properties. Madrid is some 160 kilometres away and the city of Cuenca is 55km away.

What the village can offer is tranquil countryside, local traditional residents, and a few olive groves and cornfields. It is the perfect weekend away for someone looking to escape to rural Spain.

The plots of land of 150 metres would be suitable enough land to build a small house, incorporating a garden or a patio area, and is an absolute bargain at just €2000 a number of people have already registered their interest in buying one of the plots, who knows, in 5 to 10 years, it could be the next big thing!
