Retiring or moving permanently to Cyprus is a dream which many people fulfil every single year. Some people fall in love with the lifestyle and the country so much that they apply to become a citizen. It is possible to become a citizen of Cyprus if you have lived in the country for seven or more years.

It is not a quick and simple process, however. You must be able to prove that you have been living in Cyprus property for the entire year before your application for citizenship. You will also need the following:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Copy of your Passport
  • Two Photographs
  • A Character Reference
  • A completed Application Form (M127)

Applicants are also required to advertise their request for citizenship for two consecutive days in a Cypriot newspaper.

A foreigner who is married to a Cyprian citizen can apply for citizenship after just two years of residency; however they will need even more documentation including a spouse’s passport, marriage certificate and a confirmation by a local council stating that they have been cohabiting for at least two years.
