Demetris Christofias, president of Cyprus, has announced that the tourism sector is one of his government’s top priorities.

He assured the people that ”the development and progress of tourism is a strategic goal, to which, with the collective efforts and substantive contribution of everyone, we will continue to respond with success.”

This came last week at the AGM of the Association of Cyprus Tourism Enterprises. He announced that the dwindling course of tourism has been reversed and the tourism sector in Cyprus has been lead “to positive growth once again.”

This is good news if you are planning on buying a property in Cyprus. Check out the more popular tourist areas as these will be the properties that are in demand as more tourists flock to the area and look for a villa to stay in. They will be more expensive to buy but the revenue made in renting them out will also be higher than in less touristy areas.

In 2010, Cyprus saw a rise of 5% in revenue from tourism, and the president expects this coming year to see an even bigger rise.
