In a move that promises to benefit passengers, Olympic Air and Cyprus Airways have announced that they will operate code-sharing flights.

Given the current economic climate and the crisis hitting most airlines, this will give both parties a stronger presence within the Southeast European market they serve. It will also provide passengers with a greater destination choice and cheaper airfares to dozens of Greek cities and islands, as well as other European destinations that the two companies cover.

Cooperation between the two companies started on March 27th, with shared flights going to Athens, Rhodes, Heraklion and Thessaloniki in Greece, and Larnaca and Paphos in Cyprus. From the 15th of April the arrangement will be expanded to cover most domestic and international flights of both Olympic Air and Cyprus Airways.

Frequent flyer programmes for both Olympic Air and Cyprus Airways will include flights made on either airline and points are redeemable on both airlines; irrespective of which carrier was used. The deal also includes a mutual use of VIP lounges at airports.

This will make for a better and more economically viable service which can only be an advantage to passengers as they set off to Greece or Cyprus, or indeed any destination that either airline serves.
