Staying in a property in Italy outside Rome 'a good way' to explore capitalAnyone who is looking for the ideal property in Italy should consider the merits of staying just outside Rome, it has been suggested.

Stefania Gatta, a spokeswoman for the Italian State Tourist Board, commented that it is relatively easy and cheap to travel into the capital from the outlying areas.

"What a lot of people do now is go outside Rome to stay and then either drive, or take public transport," she explained.

And people visiting a property in Italy could find that their money goes a little further this year than previously.

Research published by Post Office Travel Money earlier this week revealed that Rome is, on average, 9.7 per cent cheaper for British travellers than in 2010.

This is in part due to the pound gaining strength against the euro, the organisation noted.

Ms Gatta added that those with a property outside the capital should be able to seek out a good deal if they want to enjoy a short break in Rome.
