Discover Rome from a property in ItalyPeople staying in a property in Italy near the country's capital should endeavour to explore some of its many historical sites, it has been suggested.

Writing for the Telegraph, Lee Marshall highlighted some of the must-visit locations in Rome, although he noted that "a lifetime is hardly enough" to discover all that's on offer here.

Top of his list is the Colosseum, which he described as "unmissable" and noted that the extension of the visitor route now enables tourists to see the stadium's underfloor passageways.

Other famous landmarks to visit during a stay in a property in Italy include the Pantheon – a temple that has been standing for 2,000 years -St Peter's Basilica and the Roman Forum and Palatine, according to Mr Marshall.

He also recommended a trip to the Galleria Borghese to see "one of the world's greatest private art collections".

Among the exhibits on display here are Caravaggio's painting David with the Head of Goliath and Canova's marble statue of Pauline Bonaparte.
