Property in Spain seems to be more popular with holidaymakers of late, especially those that plan to visit Barcelona.
Figures released by Airports Council International (ACI) Europe show that Barcelona Airport was among the large airports on the continent to see an increase in passenger numbers during December, with 7.9 per cent more people opting to fly to the destination.
Barcelona is among the airports to see between ten and 25 million passengers use its facilities, along with Rome, Munich and Amsterdam – all of which also registered a rise in the number of people travelling.
This could signal that more travellers have been heading to property in Spain for a winter break.
In December, ACI Europe stressed that the majority of European hubs that experienced disruption due to the weather were doing their best to run flights and take care of the needs of passengers.
The organisation added that the safety of travellers was one of the most important factors in the airlines' and airport operators' decision making during the disruption.
