Anyone who wants to stay in property in Italy should consider Sicily if they are looking for a winter or spring break.
This is according to Pol O Conghaile, who compiled a list of some of the top winter sun destinations for the Irish Independent.
Sicily is among the locations highlighted, with the Italian island noted for its warm temperatures and interesting attractions.
Described as "one of the great Mediterranean gems", the newspaper suggested that the medieval town of Taormina is a good location to seek out property in Italy.
"Set on Monte Tauro, it offers intimate piazzas, an ancient Greco-Roman theatre [and] views towards Mount Etna and the surrounding bays," the publication added.
The Teatro Greco – the remains of an impressive theatre – date back to third century BC and offer stunning views.
Meanwhile, the archaeological museum situated in the Badia Vecchia palace offers an interesting insight into some of the area's finds and provides further information about both its Greek and Roman past.
