People seeking property in France and keen to reside in an affordable location could find Montpellier suits their needs.
The city has a young population thanks to its three universities, explains Guillaume Chauvin, spokesman for Atout France – the France Tourism Development Agency.
"Montpellier is a student city, with three universities spread on different campuses, each of them focused on specific subjects for a total of 70,000 students," he says.
This leads to 50 per cent of the population being under the age of 35 – a far cry from some other parts of the world where residents are steadily ageing.
In turn, the services designed to cater for students make Montpellier an affordable location for property in France.
For instance, many of the bars and nightclubs at its centre allow entry for free, while good-value restaurants and coffee houses add to the academic lifestyle and could also cater for visitors.
