Clash of the Titans may have made property in Spain's Canary Islands popular in 2010The number of people heading to property in Spain's largest Canary Island hit record numbers in 2010, according to figures from the Tenerife Tourism Corporation.

During the first 11 months of the year, more than 1.3 million UK tourists arrived at the volcanic island.

On average, they stayed for more than a week, with the typical visit lasting for 7.06 days.

November's visitation figure rose 8.3 per cent year-on-year to 125,895, while over the full 11 months the total was up by 8.6 per cent.

Among the events that may have made property in Spain's tourism hotspot rank higher on many agendas over the course of the year was the release of the Hollywood blockbuster Clash of the Titans.

Starring Sam Worthington and Gemma Arterton, the movie tells the tale of Perseus and was filmed against the dramatic volcanic backdrop of Tenerife's Mount Teide.

The peak is one of the island's most visible landmarks, rising above the skyline from almost any point on Tenerife.
