Property in Spain could see greater interest as exchange rates improve in 2011While long-haul destinations have proved popular in recent months, property in Spain could reassert its position as the most desired option for Britons in the year ahead.

In its forecast of travel trends for the coming year, ABTA – The Travel Association explains that the pound's position against the euro is likely to strengthen over the course of 2011.

This in turn means many people could return to traditional holiday destinations within the single currency zone, such as property in Spain.

However, that does not mean that finances will not be foremost in many minds as the current age of austerity continues.

"While cost will be high in customers' consciousness in 2011, so is their desire to get the best experience for their money," says ABTA chief executive Mark Tanzer.

Founded in 1950, ABTA has grown to a membership including some 5,000 travel agencies from its initial inclusion of just 22 founder organisations.
