There is currently a "huge opportunity" for people to purchase property in Spain, it has been claimed.

Freelance property journalist Marc Da-Silva predicted that if the pound strengthens against the euro, increasing numbers of Brits may consider buying overseas, whether it is to emigrate or to have a holiday home.

He highlighted Spain in particular, as individuals can "pick up properties for next to nothing".

Mr Da-Silva also claimed there will be an increased number of buying opportunities for those from the UK, as foreign countries are unlikely to experience a housing boom.

Indeed, earlier this month, Spain's National Statistics Institute revealed house prices in the country have declined by 1.8 per cent in the past year.

"There is absolutely no rush because there is plenty of supply and those properties simply aren't going anywhere," Mr Da-Silva continued, noting this option may be especially suited to retired individuals with plenty of savings.
