Spain is aiming to attract more young people as part of its tourist marketing strategy, something that may impact on the Spanish property market.

Discussing the holiday industry in the country, director of commercial operations at Co-operative Travel Shaun Hinds said Spain’s tourism chiefs are embarking on new strategies, having seen that other destinations such as Turkey and Egypt have started to threaten its traditional dominance of the sunshine tour market.

Noting the emphasis on attracting the younger end of the market, he commented: "This is obviously a benefit to Spain in the long term, by creating a new generation of loyal holidaymakers who recognise the variety and choice that the country offers."

A trend of rising numbers of young people could be good news for Spanish property investors, who may look to buy rental accommodation to let out to small groups.

Figures from Co-operative Travel revealed that several locations in Spain have seen a rise in bookings among under-30s.

Majorca saw bookings for under-21s up by five per cent in the past year and those aged 21-30 up three per cent, while four per cent more under-30s booked to go to Ibiza.
