Some of the best golf courses in the world are to be found in Portugal, an expert on the sport has said.

David Brice of Golf International has written that the Iberian Peninsula offers outstanding golfing along the Spanish and Portuguese coasts, with the latter being provided along the coast south of Lisbon and all along the Algarve.

The top six in Portugal named by Mr Brice are Praia d’El Rey near the medieval town of Obidos, Otiavos Dunes and Troia near Lisbon, San Lorenzo, Vilamoura Victoria Club – which stages the Portugal Masters – and Vilamoura Old Course.

Portugal property investors may be keen to buy near such courses to capitalise on their tourist appeal.

Homesoverseas.com revealed last month that Portugal property had risen to the top of the list of the most favoured buyer markets.

It had been fourth two months before, indicating a major surge in popularity compared to other countries.
