A property developer has said that modern state-of-the art homes are becoming a more prominent feature of the Algarve property market.

Speaking to the Independent, Ted Baillie, who has overseen many modern housing projects in Portugal, stated that the age of such designer homes being the exception has passed, with more modern materials being in vogue.

A reason for this is that people like to use more glass to enhance the sense of "space and light" in a property.

He stated: "On the Algarve there’s a lot of traditional-style development but you can definitely see a move towards modern design."

Such innovations may be attractive to many potential Algarve property buyers.

The region may be a major beneficiary of another recent shift in buyer tastes, which has seen Portugal become the most popular investor destination according to one poll.
