Property in Spain could provide some late-summer sunBritons have been told again that property in Spain's Canary Islands could be the ideal way to catch some late-summer rays before the winter properly sets in across the northern hemisphere.

Trevor Davis, director of retail distribution at The Co-operative Travel, points out that November 1st is the deadline beyond which new increases in Air Passenger Duty come into effect.

As a result, Britons with property in Spain – whether on the mainland, the Balearics or the Canaries – could save £60 if they take a trip there before the end of October, compared with the cost of the flight in the following month.

Meanwhile, Mr Davis suggests that a subdued holiday season during the peak summer months means there are bargains to be found as operators try to make the most of the remaining warmer weather.

He reports an increase in bookings from people "chasing the last of the summer sun" in recent weeks, with the Canaries ranking alongside Morocco and Tunisia as popular options.
