Despite the advancing months, property in Spain could still prove to be the ideal destination for a holiday.

Bob Atkinson, travel expert for travelsupermarket.com, notes the advantages that property in Spain has to offer, including the currency exchange rate.

However, with the progression into autumn and winter taking the spotlight off of the Mediterranean, Spanish destinations further afield come to the fore.

"If you are talking about value for money once you are actually in the destinations, the Canaries [are a good option] because the euro has come back fairly well in the last year," Mr Atkinson explains.

Although the flight to the Canaries can take around four hours, he adds that they represent a "short-haul" destination compared with the Caribbean.

The poorer availability of trips to long-haul destinations also makes it more difficult to book a journey there at the last minute, compared with closer holiday hotspots like the Canaries, he concludes.
