When flying out to visit friends or relatives who live in property in Spain, arriving late could prove to be a headache for all concerned.

However, travellers departing from London City Airport may have less cause for concern given the facility's competitive punctuality record.

In the second quarter of 2010, figures from the Civil Aviation Authority show 88 per cent of flights from London City departed on time.

This represents an advantage over the industry average of ten percentage points, according to the airport itself.

Chief executive Richard Gooding says: "We are delighted with the performance."

"Our ground services staff strive to ensure passengers and airlines experience fast throughput," he adds.

The figures show an improvement in punctuality at the airport during the quarter, at a time when many other UK facilities posted worsened timekeeping.
