Portugal property is an increasingly popular choice for overseas buyers, a new study has found.

Property website Homes Overseas has revealed that viewings of both its country pages and individual properties in the past month have shown a rising level of interest in Portugal.

As a result, Portugal property has overtaken France and Italy and now lies second only to Spain in the site’s list of the top ten destinations for overseas searches.

The portal commented that the evidence of its survey was that the overall level of interest in overseas property among Britons remains "firm", despite the global economic situation.

Last month United Investments Portugal announced it was bringing forward another 40 units for sale at its Pine Cliffs apartment complex on the Algarve, due to high demand.

Such a move may be further evidence that Portugal is a favoured destination at present.
