Carmen Hernandez Gomez, market analyst for the Spanish Tourism Office, explains that there are some simple pursuits in Catalonia that can make for an enjoyable break in the region.

Walking is one activity that can be enjoyed in a number of different ways, from trekking in the Pyrenees to strolling through the streets of Barcelona hand-in-hand with a loved one or with children in tow.

“The whole tapas thing is quite nice; there are a lot of small traditional bars in Barcelona,” Ms Gomez adds.

Alternatively, a stay in property in Spain‘s popular tourist city could allow architecture enthusiasts to take in some Gaudi designs first-hand.

Salvador Dali also came from Catalonia, with museums dedicated to his life and works adding to the options for holidaymakers spending some time in the area.
