Following yesterday’s news that a stay in property in Portugal can save families money on popular activities such as pedalo rides, a Post Office Travel Money spokesman notes that the past year has seen the country improve in value.

Alistair Rennie says that prices have dropped by about 30 per cent in the past 12 months.

Property in Portugal‘s tourist region of the Algarve could be a particularly economical option, with meals costing about half as much now as they did a year ago.

Mr Rennie says: "Portugal and Spain are the most popular destinations."

He adds that, following the Post Office Travel Money research into holiday costs published earlier this week, price is a significant factor in many people’s decisions over where to go on vacation – and many people are savvy when it comes to choosing.

"There’s quite a lot of money to be saved by choosing the right destination," he points out.
