However, having to return to the house to shower might prove too much of an inconvenience for many people – making outdoor showers a possible alternative.

Writing for the Guardian, Hannah Booth notes that outdoor showers can be quite easy to fit.

Her observations are based on the UK – but the clement weather conditions could make garden showers a wiser installation to property in France or other continental European countries.

Ms Booth suggests adopting a Far East style with pebbles and bamboo, or a beach surf theme with driftwood and scattered shells.

For properties located away from the mains water or electricity supply, there are ways to save both fuel and water.

The Energy Saving Trust suggests low-flow shower heads as one option, reducing consumption of the fluid while maximising the energy efficiency of the fixture.
