Travelling to property in Italy by rail could be a great way to take in some sights while unwinding in comfortable surroundings.

Richard Adams, marketing manager at rail tour operator Great Rail Journeys, explains that rail journeys are part of the holiday experience, rather than delaying the start of the vacation until arrival.

"The journey is the start of the adventure and not just a means of getting there," he adds.

Anyone choosing a rail route to property in Italy or elsewhere in continental Europe might not be alone this summer, as the firm has seen interest grow from first-time rail travellers.

Mr Adams points out the kinder environmental profile of rail travel, compared with alternatives such as air transport.

He also claims that reaching a destination by rail is both more enjoyable and less stressful than making the same journey through other means – and that there is "nothing more civilised" than going by rail.
