Property in Spain appeals to Britons for a variety of different reasons, according to freelance property journalist Marc Da-Silva.

He explains that British buyers of property in Spain are not always simply looking to make a cash return on their investment.

Rather, it is sometimes the case that they have simply fallen in love with the country and want a home of their own there.

"I think anybody buying in Spain realistically is buying for emotional purposes because they love the country," he says.

This means that many buyers are either "general holidaymakers that go regularly to Spain and would want a holiday home" or people purchasing a Spanish property for their retirement.

He adds that now is a "win-win" time for Britons to buy Spanish property, due to the recent economic effects in both countries.

Spanish property has fallen in price, while a stronger pound against the euro brings the real-terms cost for British buyers down further.
