Head to property in Italy for a tasty frozen treatProperty in Italy may already sound like a good idea for ice-cream fans, with flavours such as Neapolitan, named after Naples, linking the tasty treat with the country.

However, at the end of May a special celebration of ice cream – or gelato, in Italian – is due to take place in Florence.

From May 28th-31st, up to 300,000 people are expected to head to property in Italy‘s ice cream capital.

The Italian Government Tourist Board explains that Florence, or Firenze, is believed to be the home of ice cream itself.

In the 16th century, Florence resident Bernardo Buontalenti is credited to have invented ice cream before exporting it across the continent.

An exhibition in Piazza Santissima Annunziata is due to be held in his honour, covering everything from the invention of ice cream to modern-day techniques for its production.

"The festival will be enriched by a cycle of meetings and workshops on ice cream," the tourism organisation adds.
