However, due to the country’s popularity with Britons, there may be many people looking to avoid the crowds of tourists and experience a different side to Spain.

Francesca Ecsery, global sales director of Cheapflights.co.uk, believes Cadiz to be the perfect alternative.

She said: "It isn’t a well-established tourist destination … It’s a picturesque city with a beautiful coastline and, as one of south-western Europe’s oldest inhabited cities, the history and architecture are exceptional."

In a study by travel search site Skyscanner, Spain is found to be the most popular country for Brits to visit, with 11 Spanish cities within the top 50, five of which are in the top ten.
