According to the editor of House Beautiful magazine Julia Goodwin, in the new year people are set to become "much more inventive" with the way in which they decorate their properties.

Owners of property in Spain may want to add the personal touch to their overseas home by bringing items from their main home in the UK or even taking the time to make their own ornaments and other items.

Retro fashion is set to be big in home decor in 2010, she went on to say, with the 50s and 60s having an influence on people’s ideas.

Bright colours – which could be ideal shades with which to paint a property in Spain – are also set to be popular, with limes and "zingy" colours mentioned by Ms Goodwin.
