Better than expected snowfall in the Alps is good news for those who own property in France and could help them fill up their holiday rental books for the next few weeks.

Writing for the Daily Mail, Neil English said that 2009 will be a "vintage year" in terms of snowfall for the Alps in France and Switzerland.

Mr English said that Alpine ski resorts such as Les Deux Alpes and Espace Killy are being coated in large sheets of snow which could make them the ideal place for those who own French property in the areas to head to for a festive holiday.

"Cold weather in lower-altitude destinations, such as La Tania in the Three Valleys region of France and resorts in the Spanish and Andorran Pyrenees, means they are also enjoying good snow cover, with ski lifts open," he noted.

Regular skiers should look into investing in a property in France, as having somewhere to stay when a short notice trip is on the cards could prove to be cheaper than booking hotels at the last minute.
