Tourists are still on the lookout for holidays which are good value for money and also offer a unique and interesting travel experience, it has been noted.

According to director of product management at Expedia.co.uk Jonathan Cudworth, while package breaks continue to be popular with holidaymakers – and have helped firms such as Thomas Cook perform well this year – traditional holidays are "becoming less relevant".

"Customers are increasingly purchasing travel components from multiple suppliers in the search for a travel experience that is both unique; and in many cases, cheaper," he said.

To cut back on the cost of hotels on holidays, Brits may find it a good move in the long run to invest in a property in France or other European country.

While the initial cost will be higher, having a holiday home in France to regularly jet off to could help Brits save cash on accommodation costs.
