British investors should "stick to established used properties with proven legality" if they are looking to make a move into Spanish property over the next few years, it has been advised.

According to the Spanish Property Owners Guild, Brits looking to invest in property in Spain should ensure they are going about their purchase in the right way.

Commenting, spokesman for the guild Paul Bradley said that in order for a property in Spain to be a good investment, it must have "excellent rental qualities".

Brits heading to Spain to buy a property may consider renting out their overseas home at times of the year when they are back in the UK, as this could prove lucrative and ideal for keeping the home in use.

According to Spanish property firm Mercers, the Spanish property market is beginning to "whirr back into motion" after a period of anaemic activity, but the group warned that the market is still "highly price sensitive".
