People who own French property are still heading to their holiday homes for skiing, despite the impact of the global recession, it has been claimed.

Any suggestion that the French slopes have been quiet this year because of the global economic downturn appear to have been dismissed by the organiser of the Metro Ski and Snowboard Show in London, who have pointed out that many people still travel to their French property during the snowy season.

Tim Holmes, show manager, explained: "It is not the first thing they will give up as a consequence of a slight economic misfortune."

He added: "Most people will give up going away twice or a long holiday somewhere because [skiing] is more of a passion sport-based exercise."

People seeking to buy French property as a base in which to spend a skiing holiday may find they have to be quick to find the best properties, because so many people are still looking to invest in the market.

A recent poll from the Ski Club of Great Britain revealed France continues to dominate the UK snowsports market with a 43 per cent share.
